Craft Gossip Write Up

May 30, 2009

Hey, look at that….my Facings Turorial that I posted last month was written up in Craftgossip.

craftgossipblogstitle

As it says on the about page, Craft Gossip is an online review site that scours the net looking for the best craft ideas and projects and reviews them for you.

They have a wide range of topics they cover–from jewelry making to knitting to recycled crafts to glass arts to quilting and many more. Each topic has its own page and an editor who canvases websites and blogs looking for all good stuff to tell us about.

I’m so pleased that Scarlet Burroughs, the quilting editor, picked my Facing Tutorial to showcase on the qulting page of the blog. What a great honor! Thanks.

The Reveal….

December 6, 2008

Well now is the time to reveal of the winner of the “Guess My Swap Technique” I’m doing for the Arttechniques yahoo group.

drum roll pls……..

…IT IS A BROWN PAPER BAG distressed only with paints and silver ink.  I was going for an antiqued silver metal look and thanks to all the comments I received I think I got fairly close to my objective.  I must have crumpled that darned paper bag at least 5 or 6 times after each drying session because I really wanted lots of texture on it. I really like it!

The other one I did looks like bronzed metal (below). At first I was aiming for a leather-like look but eh….that sure didn’t work out. So I ended up rubbing more and more of the copper ink on it and loved the effect. The picture does not do it justice though, if only you could see this in person…and some of you lucky folks will get to once we swap next year.

So back to who won. Since no guessed exactly the right technique but everyone seemed to be in the same  ballpark I put everyone’s name in the running and used the random number generator to pick a winner. And the winner is…….

…..Anne Marie Desaulniers

Anne Marie,  email me (see sidebar) and let me know your snail mail address so I can send your surprise gift on over to you. Congratulations and thanks for playing along everyone.

Now I’m off to make 122 little 4″x4″ cards. Whew! I’m tired already just thinking about it. Ha!

Sneak Peak

November 27, 2008

I needed a jump-start (remember my last post…rest or PUSH!) and decided to join another yahoo group, Arttechniques (put your hands up if you belong to at least 5 of them).  I joined their new Fat Book technique swap and finally had a brainstorm of an idea or two to use. In this swap you only have to do one 4×4 inch sample of your particular technique. No probs right?

And the catch is you say……weeeeelllllllll (as Lucille Ball used to say to Ricky) —– you have to make one for everyone participating in the swap! That magic number ……………118……so far.

YIKES!!!

Yeh, I have to make one hundred eighteen, 4×4 inch samples of my technique. Now you understand why this is such a good jump-start for me. Obviously I need to test my mettle, right?

All kidding aside, I’m really looking forward to this. Who wouldn’t? The prize at the end is………..I get 117 of them back! And ALL will be different. My mixed-media repertoire of techniques will grow. I can’t wait to get that nice surprise in the mail next year.

The cool thing about this swap is how you choose your technique. It must incorporate a homemade, inexpensive or recycled art supply. So here is a sneak peak at the beginning of what I’ve been working on.  Bet ya can’t guess.

Okay, here’s a challenge. Tell me exactly what my technique uses and how I’m doing it and you will be in the running for surprise gift from me (no cheating, those who know what I’m doing). Let’s say we give it a week and see what the guesses are. I’m tickled about this one…hee hee.
